Application
APPLICATIONS OF METALWORKING FLUIDS (MWF)
Metalworking Fluids (MWF) are a special group of products used in metal cutting, machining, forming, and treatment processes. Depending on the type (water-miscible or neat oils), they have specific applications as follows:
1. Chip-forming Operations
• Turning
• Milling
• Drilling
• Reaming
• Tapping
Application: Lubricates and cools the cutting zone, reduces friction, minimizes tool wear, and improves surface finish of the workpiece.
2. Abrasive Operations
• Surface grinding, cylindrical grinding, centerless grinding
• Metal polishing
Application: Prevents overheating, avoids surface burning, and maintains high machining accuracy.
3. Forming Operations
• Rolling
• Cold stamping/pressing
• Cold forging/extrusion
• Wire & tube drawing
Application: Enhances metal deformability, protects dies & tools, and prevents metal sticking.
4. CNC Machining & Precision Industry
• Mold manufacturing, automotive and motorcycle parts, marine and aerospace components
• Machining of hard alloys, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, titanium
Application: Ensures high precision, reduces vibration, and extends tool life.
5. Protective & Auxiliary Applications
• Prevents metal corrosion during temporary storage
• Provides rust protection for machined parts
• Keeps chips and swarf clean, facilitating machine maintenance and cleaning
Summary
Metalworking fluids are not only lubricants and coolants, but also play a crucial role in protecting cutting tools, improving surface quality, increasing machining productivity, and extending equipment life. They are essential in all sectors of mechanical engineering, heavy industry, precision CNC machining, automotive manufacturing, marine, aerospace, steel, and agricultural machinery.
TECHNICAL STANDARDS
Standards of Metalworking Fluids (MWF)
